hi — i'm jeff essex, a talented and versatile performer and artist, with credits in film and television, voiceover work, and stage (from regional theatre to off-broadway). i've been a performer and head writer in a fantastic sketch comedy group, and i've played roles ranging from the insanely murderous scottish king, macbeth, to the insanely funny vaudeville comic, harpo marx. i also do a decent job of portraying the occasional sane character.
besides acting, i'm also a musician, a singer and songwriter, a writer and an artist — as one of those proverbial jacks of all trades, creatively speaking, i can incorporate my other talents into my acting wherever they might work.

what's exciting right now?
cartoon network is currently considering picking up a new series based on a pilot i co-starred in, the upstate four. i play sam, the sweet and silly rabbit, who has fun and ludicrous adventures with his friends david, kevin, and mary. with any luck, cartoon network will give it the green light, and i'll be booked in a regular cartoon series on national television. just a couple weeks back, upstate four won an excellence in animation award at the asifa east animation festival. fran and will krause are really incredible animators — i hope this is a step towards the series getting picked up!
jonathan larson award-winning composer mike pettry, who was the assistant musical director on my scoundrels tour, asked me to read a role in the staged reading of his very keen musical, the time travelers convention. the reading was friday the 13th, but not one single hockey-mask-wearing homicidal maniac showed up. super mario did, though, and — along with the rest of the audience — enjoyed the heck out of the show. i highly recommend bothering mike and heidi (his writing partner) for the music over at their website.
after well over a hundred performances as inspector andre in the broadway national tour of dirty rotten scoundrels (a musical based on the film with steve martin and michael caine), and several in the role of freddy benson, my tour is now over! i'm now back in new york, perhaps to stay, to see what trouble i can get into next.
